Tiferet, founded by Cantor Julie Newman, offers mindful spiritual practices grounded in Jewish wisdom in the Greater Pittsburgh area. We believe these practices can nourish and strengthen the inner life of seekers while supporting our ability to do good in the world.

We aspire to encourage balance and growth through engagement with Jewish spiritual practices as part of a modern life. We aim to expand awareness and appreciation for contemplative and embodied practices that can lead to a fuller human experience. Through teaching and our own practice, we envision bringing people together in communities of practice within and beyond existing Jewish institutions.  Tiferet operates in the space between synagogues and “the wilderness.” We work towards creating localized communities of practice.

Sefer Yetzirah Meditation - online and in person

ONLINE and IN PERSON

Pre-registration is required. Once registered, we will provide you with a code for entry to the building (if you’re coming in person) and instructions for entry into the Zoom.

The group meets weekly on Wednesdays from 10-10:45 AM. This series is rooted in the teachings of Sefer Yetzirah — one of the most ancient and mysterious works of Jewish mysticism.

Sefer Yetzirah is a pre-Kabbalistic text that infers that the Hebrew letters themselves are more than symbols: they are the building blocks of creation, channels of divine energy, and pathways into deeper awareness. In this meditation series, we explore the letters as sources of magic, creativity, and transformation. Through guided practices, chanting, and silent reflection, we will invite the power of the alef-bet to open our hearts, calm our minds, and connect us more fully to the sacred flow of life.

No previous meditation experience is required. This is a welcoming space for all who wish to encounter Jewish wisdom through the lens of mindfulness, presence, and contemplative practice. Together, we enter into a centuries-old stream of Jewish mysticism in community and allow it to nourish us in the present moment.

Preregister for one class. ($18)

Preregister for 4 weeks. ($54)
